What the UK eVisa Means for Pakistani Students?
If you’re wondering whether this new eVisa system by the UK will affect your study abroad dream, then you’re at the right place.
The UK government has introduced a new eVisa system, moving away from physical immigration documents like the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). For Pakistani students looking to study in the UK, here’s why this change is important to understand:
What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is a digital proof of your immigration status. Instead of a physical card or paper, your visa is stored online, accessible through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. This system allows you to prove your visa status online when needed, such as to employers or landlords.
How Does the UK eVisa Impact Pakistani Students?
Starting from November 1, 2024, students applying for a UK Student Visa will no longer receive a BRP. Instead, they will be issued an eVisa. If you apply before this date, you may still receive a BRP, but you will eventually be transitioned to the eVisa system.
This transition means:
- No need to carry physical documents: You won’t have to worry about losing your BRP or it getting stolen.
- Easier access to visa status: You can access your eVisa anytime through your UKVI account, making it easy to update information and prove your status.
- Secure and fraud-resistant: The eVisas are linked to your biometric data, making it harder for anyone to forge or misuse.
What Should You Do?
- Set Up a UKVI Account: If you haven’t already, you’ll need to create a UKVI account using the UK Immigration ID Check app.
- Monitor Emails: The Home Office will email you once your eVisa is ready. Make sure to follow instructions carefully to transition smoothly.
- Carry Your Passport: Until your eVisa is fully active, continue to carry your passport and BRP (if issued) when traveling to or from the UK.
